I love to explore places that are off the beaten path! This channel is filled with small towns and obscure places that few people visit. I enjoy learning about their history and telling the stories. I don't claim to be a history expert - more of a fan of the places I go!
My goal is to upload a new video every Thursday and Sunday at 7am Central. Subscribe to the channel, hit the notification bell, blah blah blah, and you'll know when a new video is available! Thanks for the support!

Malls are dieing in the United States but thriving in most other country's..... just let that sink in.
The government is building a giant migrant apartment complex there!😢
Perry is Wrestling City USA Ask Danny Hodge.
A friend was considering moving his store to the Manhattan Mall but the lease was insane. The base rent was reasonable to entice stores to move in but they also asked for a percentage of gross sales and the percentage increased as sales increased. He did the math and it was far beyond his reach to sell enough just to break even on the rent. If that kind of lease is typical it's clear to see why malls are dying.
Really good comment - thank you
I remember the metal slide looking different. I thought it was wider and red.
What an adventure. Beautiful areas. Hike with view outstanding. Old wagon ruts are a great treasures left behind reminders of pioneers toughness of spirit.
I can't imagine what it was like to go through there. Amazing to think about!
Born and raised here in Boise city
LOVE the Oklahoma Panhandle. Shout out to Woodward, OK, the lil town with a HUGE heart: The ladies at the Subway will remember your favorite sandwich order, even if you only pass through 1-2x per year. The Rec. Center / pool is an AMAZING place to stop with your kids, & the non-profit thrift store on Old Main is completely & effectively run by developmentally challenged employees/owners. 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤ Woodward is the best version of what America could be🎉🎉🎉!!!
I'm just curious, why do you wear makeup?
huh?
I was a "day one" employee of Dillard's when the mall first opened. Then when Hastings opened in the mall, I took a job there and worked there several years. The mall, even in it's hay day, was never completely full. There were always several spots that were never rented. But it was still a hoping place back in the late 80's and early 90's.
An Oklahoman here, get yourself some tire plugs and a tire inflator. Safe travels
Haha thanks for the advice :)
I truly love this part of KS. I traveled the triangle of Liberal, Garden City and Dodge every two weeks for about five years with many side trips.
Veyr interesting part of the state that not many people really know about!
Interesting how Wheeless got it's name.
Want to bring life back into that mall? Turn one store into a CASINO .... the other locations will reopen as food and beverage stores and other businesses that support the Casino.
one thing i like in iowa is the old court house buildings in the town squares. you don't see architecture like that anymore.
Very beautiful indeed!
Love that landscape and great history . Hope it dosent become a wind farm
I hope so too :)
at 2.53 minutes crossing Spring River off to the right is the old baseball field (now soccer field) is where the Yankees office come to sign Mickey Mantle. Also few miles east of Coffeyville there is an old military runways still there.
I grew up in Ark City and went to college out in Pittsburg so I’m very familiar with this drive. In fact when I was at college they were just starting to build the highway to bypass the city of Sedan. I wish that you would’ve taken the drive up into that town as it is unique as well.
I actually did a separate video on Sedan if you are interested.
I’ll look for it
You know one thing I always wonder when I see the grain elevators in your videos, and that are the structures on top of them. Are those offices of some sort, or structures that house mechanic equipment? I know nothing about them so it just seems strange to see those, and it's a question I've always wanted to ask.
I think it might be a machine room of sorts but I’m no expert either.
My family passes thru Hutchinson every once in a while headed to Texas. We usually stop at the Cosmosphere. I didn't realize or remember that there was a mall here. Some malls here in Illinois look the same. It's sad to see them as ghost towns. Every time I see one I think of my childhood when we got our mall (Decatur). It was a mecca for many and my family would often go there on a Friday night if for nothing else than to go for a stroll. Memories.
You are an engaging story teller..Humble, good pilot, photographer. & informed of your topics.
I appreciate that! Thank you very much 😊
Many of my relatives are buried at Mine La Motte cemetery. The journey to Saint Genevieve is far more daunting when you consider they were hauling lead.
Iowa Point and Bendena were easy enough to find on Google Maps. Eagle Spring, not so much, and there wasn't much to had just doing a simple Google search either. Bummer, I was really hoping to find it.
Yeah tough to find. I’ve received messages that I was close in this video but not exactly there.
I've lived in Hutchinson most of my life, and I can remember when this mall was a lively place. Their radio ads used to say "things are really hummin' at the Hutchinson Mall." Yeah, the fluorescent lights, which you can hear because nothing is happening. King Wok was the last holdout in the food court, but even they had to call it quits.
Love to find a place like that. From the time I was 1 to 10 I lived in a small town in Kentucky and from 10 to now at 66 I live in a city love to get back to my home in Kentucky
Sure looks a lot like New Mexico, just like the western edge of the Texas panhandle.
Born in Beaver… Great video… fascinating area… part of Comancheria.
Thank you! Hoping to explore Beaver County as well!
I used to go to towne west almost every couple weeks with my parents and for some school trips and i can remeber some stores closing down but i havent walked around there recently only to watch some movies but i just felt so sad watching this because this mall was my childhood :(
Dang it! I hate that I just found your channel today. Wish I would had known you was going to be here. COuld have gave you some more history on my little town of Baxter Springs. Like this is the town that the New York Yankees came and signed Mickey Mantle down at the field on the river. Boney and Clyde hid out here for a while.
Been there, dead 20 years ago!
Drove through there a few times in the early 70s before I-70 when US 6-50 went through there. Wasn't a lot left then, Gas Station / Store and a few mobile homes. The houses and other buildings were pretty much already deserted. I need to look at the original Vanishing Point again .
The parking lots surrounding this place are absurd. Used to be so much more buisness and traffic there
I once lived in hooker ok in the panhandle
I went to this mall in 2018 or maybe 2019 and it had a decent amount of stores open but it has gone downhill quite a bit since then. Pretty sad.
Looks almost as bad as Topeka's mall. Very sad!
While watching this vid., I could picture in my mind the ancient sea that covered this area. Most noticeable at the drop off. (Including the area you flew the drone over) It was called the Western Interior Seaway and was huge. Extending from the Arctic, south all the way to the Gulf. ( Formerly the Tephys Sea)
Fascinating to think about what this land was and has become!
@@TravelwithaWiseguy indeed! People also forget about the mega flora as well.
Born & raised in Boyd.
Lot of reason why our mall is so dead is due to rental space prices
Some of the anchor stores went out of business due to financial reasons
Locke was a destination for many Sacramento politicians in the 1960's. On a Friday night I remember seeing many expensive cars parked there because AL THE WOP'S was famous for steak dinners and a bar that had dollar bills stuck to the ceiling. The bar would be packed with fancy suits and dresses drinking while waiting for their tables. They would fold a dollar bill, stick a thumb tack in it and use a silver dollar to throw it up to the ceiling where it would stick allowing the coin to drop back down. What fun! Those glory days are gone.
i remember last time i went to towne west i went to the candy store after begging and begging my mom to let me go. now it's not even there anymore.
I love Marine land. Got my car packed n I'm moving south!!!!!
Woohoo 🙌🏼
Check out OTTER CREEK FLORIDA (WHAT THE HALES)
I’ve seen it. Wild 😂😂
Was the guy who lived next to the bank Virgil Ward?
Loved this video!! My distant family from the old country relocate to this town back in the early 1900s and are buried in the Zion cemetery. Thank you for making this video!!
Glad you enjoyed it thanks!
What kind of camera, and drone, do you use?
Just my iPhone and a DJi Mavic Pro 2 drone
The panhandle is very depressing . but it is interesting
